Character
Luke and Sarah Carter
Luke Carter, or Sarah Carter if the player picks a girl, is the player character of EmporMogul: a 16-year-old in the summer of 2000 who lives with Mom and Dad, Linda Carter and Tom Carter, and starts dropshipping from home.
Background
Luke (or Sarah) is the only child of an ordinary American family, the Carters. In the summer of 2000 the kid is between sophomore and junior year of high school; the game plays the junior and senior years, up to graduation in June 2002, at 18.
The kid wants a car for the 17th birthday: an ugly used one, but their own. At breakfast on the first day, Dad sets the terms:
Car's yours the day you can pay for it. Same deal as always.
Dad's old laptop
The kid's laptop is Dad's old work laptop, handed down (a teenager's own laptop was rare in 2000).
The first money
On Monday 3 July 2000, the first day, the kid runs an errand for Frank Dawson, the neighbour, and keeps the change: the first money they earn.
Quests
Coming: quest pages are generated once the game's objectives move into a data file.

Trivia
- Every line is written for Luke. When the player picks Sarah, the game swaps the name and a few words: "son" becomes "dear", "Good man" becomes "Atta girl", "he" becomes "she".
- The game starts on Monday 3 July 2000 because 1 and 2 July were a weekend: the first day needs a weekday, so that Dad drives to work after breakfast and the grocery store is open.
