Tom Carter is the player character's dad. He comes home after work and fixes things.
Background
Tom comes home after work and has small interactions with the kid; he fixes things. His old work laptop was handed down to the kid, who uses it to research selling online.
On the first day
At breakfast, behind his newspaper, he answers the kid's car wish: the car is theirs the day they can pay for it. Then he drives off to work.
