QuickTransfer

QuickTransfer is the wire store on Main Street in downtown Maruf, under a yellow sign: townspeople pay their bills and send money transfers there. The kid sends money to the supplier from its counter. It is planned and not built yet.

Description

A modest, slightly old-fashioned shop in a row of storefronts on Main Street, with a yellow sign. Inside, the counter clerk works behind glass, with a radio playing 90s rock. The design brief for its reference pictures asks for a glass shop front, an ATM set into the wall beside the door, a small waiting area, a long counter with service windows behind thick glass, a take-a-number machine and a back office with a safe; the pictures only inspire, and the owner designs the place when it is built.

In the game

Planned, a main mission (it teaches how to send money). On Tuesday 1 August 2000 the kid and Frank pass the yellow sign on their walk downtown. Inside, Artie Finch lays out the maths: the wire company takes 2.5% off the top, at least $2.50 a transfer, before anyone else touches a dime, so a reseller has to build the fee into the retail price. Wiring $50 to the supplier costs $52.50. On Thursday 2 November 2000, when the first order comes in, the kid pays EmporWAY from this counter and reads the transfer code to the supplier on the phone; a player who skipped the prologue is walked through it then.
